John 10: 22-30

Watch What They Do

By Dr. Carol J Miller

How do you know what someone is like? How do you decide whether they are friendly or not––whether they like to do things or not––whether they are kind––whether they are fun to play with? How do you decide?

(Acknowledge their answers. Then wrap it up by saying, “There are lots of ways to learn what a person is like, aren’t there––but one of the best ways is just to watch how they act.”)

Some people wanted to know what Jesus was like. Some people were saying that he had come to save the world, but others doubted. Some people asked Jesus to tell them clearly who he was and what he had come to do. “Just tell us plainly,” they said.

But Jesus wouldn’t do it. He told them that they could tell who he was by watching what he did. He had healed sick people. Didn’t that tell them something important about him! He had been kind to little children. Didn’t that tell them something about him!

But some of them didn’t like Jesus. It didn’t really matter how many good things he did, they wouldn’t believe in him.

But we believe in Jesus, don’t we. We hear the stories about him healing the sick, and that makes us love him. We hear the stories about him being kind to children, and that makes us love him.

Let me tell you one more thing about Jesus. I have believed in Jesus for many years, and he has helped me through many difficult times. I know that he loves me, and that he makes my life better.

Jesus loves you too. Jesus especially loves children. Believe in him. Pray to him. Love him, and he will make your life better too.
