John 16:12-15

To Guide You

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Objects suggested: ruler, stick of gum or jelly bean

Unless you live in Australia you have probably only seen a kangaroo in a zoo. Or maybe you have read “Winnie the Pooh” and have met Kanga and little Roo. (Show picture if you have one.)

When a kangaroo is born it is only 1/2 to 1 inch long. (Show length on ruler.) It weighs less than a stick of gum or a jelly bean. (Show those objects.)

This tiny, newly born kangaroo, which is called a joey, has no hair and is blind. Can you imagine how helpless it would be?

After the joey is born the mother licks a pathway on her fur to help the baby find the pouch. The tiny kangaroo follows the path and once inside the pouch, is safe and warm. It has everything it needs, including milk, which is squirted into its mouth. The baby has been guided, into the pouch by its mother.

When Jesus was preparing to go to heaven he talked with his disciples, who were sad because he was leaving them. He told them that after he left, the Holy Spirit would come to guide them. He said,“…when he, the Spirit of truth, has come, he will guide you into all truth…” (16:13).

The“Spirit of Truth” is God’s Spirit that was with the disciples and is with us now. God’s Spirit is that voice that speaks within us and guides us so that we know right from wrong. God’s Spirit provides what we need. Let God guide your life.
