Titus 3:4-7

All About Kindness

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Today let’s talk about kindness. We all know how important it is to be kind. Doesn’t it feel good to be kind? We certainly know how wonderful it feels when someone is kind to us.

I learned about a woman who decided to celebrate her birthday by carrying out thirty-four acts of kindness – one act of kindness for each year of her life. Isn’t that a great idea?

She left a bag of quarters at the Laundromat for others to use. She dropped a five dollar bill on the floor of the Dollar Store so whoever found it could use it to buy what they needed. She took a box of chocolates to the fire station to thank the firefighters for their service. She found thirty four ways to be kind.

Could you think of six or eight or eleven acts of kindness – enough to match your age? I would need to list many!

Sometimes kindness is as easy as a smile or opening the door for someone. Sometimes it is sticking up for someone who is being bullied. Can you list other ideas?

After washing your hands in a public restroom, pull down the paper towel so it will be ready for the next person to use.

Donate some of your toys or outgrown clothes to a homeless shelter or day care center.

Write a thank-you note to your doctor, your coach, or music teacher.

Give someone a compliment.

Visit the elderly in a nursing home.

Can you imagine what our world would be like if everyone was kind? The Bible teaches us that God is kind and shows his love to all of us, not because we have done anything to earn that kindness, but because of God’s love for us. (Titus 3:4)

You are loved! Every day think of ways to share that love by showing kindness to others.
