Children’s Sermon

Mark 10:2-16

The Honored Child

By Lois Parker Edstrom

What’s the best thing about being a kid?

You play. That is definitely a wonderful thing about being a kid. We, as adults, could learn from you about how to do that well.

You have parents and grandparents who love you and take care of you. You live in a home where there is food, clothes to wear, and a place to sleep.

You have time to read, draw pictures, and listen to music.

You have toys.

Do you sometimes splash in mud puddles? That may be another good thing that kids enjoy, but adults, most often, don’t.

Because you are a kid you pay less to go to a movie or for a meal in a restaurant.

These are some of the good things about being a kid, but we find the very best thing about being a kid in the words of Jesus. He said, “Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these” (10:14).

Jesus says the kingdom of God belongs to kids and to those adults who have the spirit and faith of a child. The way for an adult to become a part of God’s kingdom is to be like a kid. God favors you and uses you as an example of what is good. Wow, you are special!
