Micah 6:1-8

The Good Life List

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Today’s lesson comes from one of the best verses in the Bible. Micah was a prophet of long ago and he asked the people, “What does Yahweh (the Lord) require of you…” (6:8). We could ask ourselves the same question. What does God want from us? What does he want us to do?

In these verses Micah lists three things God requires of us and these three things are almost everything we need to please God and have a good life.

Let’s go over these ideas one by one.

Act justly. This means to do the right thing. We make many choices each day. We all know the difference between right and wrong. As we make those choices we must remember to be fair and do the right thing.

Love mercy. Be kind! That sounds simple, doesn’t it? It’s not always easy to be kind when someone says or does something that is hurtful to us, but we can show God’s love to the others by the simple act of being kind.

Walk humbly with your God. I think this means that we don’t have all the answers. We respect God’s wisdom and look to God for guidance and direction. We worship and give thanks for all he has given us.

Do what is right, be kind, and respect God. Keep this list in your heart. You can’t go wrong!
