Galatians 4:4-7

Cause for Celebration

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Objects optional: Party items.

I know a little boy who was adopted when he was three days old by a family who wanted and needed him to join their family. His mother, who loved him and gave birth to him, was unable to care for him so she wanted to make sure he was with people who would also love him and give him a good home.

His new family, a mommy, a daddy and a sister, loved him very much. On the day he came home from the hospital his new mommy and daddy invited other family members and friends to a party and they all celebrated his birth. They even baked a birthday cake. They felt so blessed to have this new baby boy as a part of their family. He grew up to be a fine young man.

Can you imagine being adopted by God? The Bible tells us this: “… when the fullness of the time came, God sent out his Son…” (4:4) “… that we might receive the adoption of children” (4:5).

The Bible teaches us that when we accept God’s love, which came to us through Jesus, we are adopted into God’s family. We are chosen by God to receive his love and become his children. This is cause for celebration. How wonderful to know we are loved and cherished by God just as an adopted child is loved and cherished.

We should celebrate each day, and perhaps even have a party, to celebrate our adoption into God’s family.
