Galatians 1:11-24

The Story of a Man Named Paul

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Do you think someone who makes bad choices can change?

I hope so because that means we all have a chance to be a better person. Wouldn’t you agree that we all make mistakes and have done things we are not proud to admit?

In the Bible we learn that the apostle Paul changed in a big way. He was a man who tried to destroy the church of God. He was cruel to those who did not share his beliefs.

Then Paul tells us that God, “…called me through his grace” (1:15). Paul felt God’s love and he wanted to share this marvelous thing with everyone. He became a Christian and traveled to many regions telling others about Jesus.

People were amazed because they saw a man who had once tried to destroy the churches now encouraging others to become Christians. He wanted them to experience God’s love and joy. Paul changed in a big way.

What we learn from this story is that change is possible. Each one of us can realize our mistakes, accept God’s love and be changed for the better. We are the same person, but with God’s love in our life we make better choices.

This story has a happy ending. As Paul traveled and spoke to others about God’s love, he says, “…they glorified God in me” (1:24). What could be better than to be a person who glorifies God?
