Children’s Sermon

Exodus 34:29-35

Light of God’s Love

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Suggestions: Consider incorporating the song, “Carry the Light” into this lesson.

Today let’s think about things that shine from the inside, out into the world. The first thing that comes to mind is a lighthouse. Its light shines out and can be seen over several miles.

Have you ever taken a walk after dark and noticed how cozy the homes seem when the inside lights are turned on?

One of my favorite memories is walking by a church on a snowy winter night and seeing the stained glass windows all aglow. The light from inside the church shone through the beautiful colored windows and caused them to be even more glorious than during daylight hours.

From a story in the Old Testament we learn that when Moses came down from Mount Sinai after being given the Ten Commandments, “his face shone” (34:29) because he had been speaking with God.

It seems that Moses was lit from the inside by a light that shone out so others could see it. What do you think caused that to happen? Yes, I think we could say that God’s love filled Moses with light.

You may have seen someone who has a radiant face. There is something that shines out and causes others who see it to feel happy. God’s love can fill each one of us with light and joy.
