John 1: 43-51
A Good Man

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Let me tell you about a good man. His name is Albert Schweitzer and he spent most of his time in Africa where he built a hospital to take care of people who were ill and needed his help. His hospital grew until it could take care of five hundred patients. He was a doctor, but also a missionary who taught others about God’s love. In addition to that he studied music and was an excellent pianist and organist. He first performed in his father’s church when he was nine years old. He wrote books and received many honors. He is especially known for his respect shown for all of life. He was a very good man.

Who do you name as a good man? Your father, grandfather, brother, pastor, doctor, teacher? There are many good men who do wonderful things everyday to make sure we have food, a place to live, clothing, and books to read; men who teach us about the world and about ourselves, music, art and math; men who do unselfish things to give us what we need and keep us safe

Jesus was a man who did many good things; he taught, healed, and fed others. He was a very good man, but he was so much more than that. The Bible teaches us that Jesus is the Son of God. He was given special power to perform miracles and offer God’s love to each one of us. We all can understand that Jesus was a very good man, but Christians worship Jesus as the Son of God, the Savior of the World.
