1 Peter 4:1-8
Healthy Choices

By Lois Parker Edstrom

As you grow up you will be exposed to many things. You will have lots of wonderful experiences and you may also be attracted to things that are not good for you.

Teenagers, and even younger kids, can get into a lot of trouble by making bad choices about smoking, drinking, or using drugs. These are difficult things to talk about, but the problems are real. Many kids and adults get sick, have accidents, and die as a result of making bad choices.

Temptations (dangerous things that may seem exciting) are out there in the world. They may be around you in school and you may have friends who think those dangerous activities would be fun.

Listen to this verse from the Bible: “… live the rest of your time … for the will of God” (4:2).

The Bible teaches us to avoid unhealthy things that may harm us, even though those things may look like fun or make us feel more grown up. Instead we should think about God’s will for our lives.

Make choices that help you be the best person you can be. Don’t get caught up in trying to fit in to what other kids may be doing.

Be your own person. Make healthy choices that will make you happy.

You can’t go wrong if you try to live your life “by the will of God.”
