1 Peter 1:3-9
Indescribable Joy

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Have you ever experienced something so beautiful that you don’t know what to do with yourself? This may happen when we see something beautiful in nature – at day’s end when the setting sun turns the sky on fire or in the morning when the soft colors of pink and purple sweep across the sky.

Perhaps you’ve seen a chick or baby bird hatch out of an egg or observed kittens or puppies being born. Those adorable little babies are such a miracle that we hardly know what to do or say.

Someone felt that way when you were born, only much, much more. That is the kind of joy that makes a person feel like laughing and crying, singing and jumping and shouting, all at the same time.

I know of one grandfather who, when his first grandchild was born, stood on the street corner in his small town and waved cars over to the curb so he could tell them the wonderful news. That is the kind of joy we can’t describe and feels so good we think we will burst happiness.

The Bible teaches us that God gives us life and when we believe in God we see things in a new way. As we experience all the beauty of life there is “joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1:8).

May each one of you have such joy in your life!
