1 Corinthians 6:12-20

Where God’s Spirit Lives

By Lois Parker Edstrom

Object suggested: An apple

Do you take an apple in your lunch box or choose one as a snack? They are so crunchy and good. Perhaps you’ve heard someone say, “An apple a day keeps the doctor away.”

It is an old saying that people repeat and it is a simple way of reminding us that when we think of food, apples are a healthy choice.

Apples are loaded with vitamins and fiber and other good things that protect us from certain illnesses and help us stay well.

What are some other things we can do to stay healthy?

Eat a variety of healthy foods.

Play outdoors, take walks, and get lots of exercise.

Get plenty of sleep.

Take good care of our teeth.

Try to learn something new every day.

Have hobbies that bring us pleasure.

Spend time with friends.

These are all good ideas for ways to stay healthy.

We know that it is important to take good care of our bodies so we can stay healthy, but the Bible teaches us there is another reason to take care of our bodies.

“…Don’t you know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit which is in you, which you have from God?” (6:19).

When you accept God’s love His Spirit becomes a part of who you are. Your body becomes like a temple or a church where God’s Spirit lives.

Just as we honor God by caring for the church where we come to worship, we also are reminded to honor God by taking good care of our bodies. God’s Holy Spirit lives within you.
