Biblical Commentary

  • Galatians 1:1-12

In Paul's greetings, he establishes his credentials––called by God to be an apostle. He expresses amazement that the Galatian Christians have so readily abandoned the grace bestowed by Christ, and pronounces a curse on anyone who would lead them astray.

  • Galatians 1:11-24

Paul acknowledges his role as a persecutor of the church––and his vision of the risen Christ, who called him to be an apostle––and his journey to Arabia––and his visit with Cephas and James, who glorified God because of Paul's Christian faith.

  • Galatians 2:15-21

Paul acknowledges his role as a persecutor of the church––and his vision of the risen Christ, who called him to be an apostle––and his journey to Arabia––and his visit with Cephas and James, who glorified God because of Paul's Christian faith.

  • Galatians 3:23-29

Before faith came, we were subject to Jewish law, our disciplinarian. However, Christ removed those strictures and made us children of God through faith.

  • Galatians 4:4-7

In the fullness of time, God sent his Son, Jesus Christ, to redeem us and make us adoptive children of God.

  • Galatians 5:1, 13-25

Christ has set us free (from the Jewish law), so don't submit to slavery to that law. We are called to freedom, but not to indulgence.

  • Galatians 6:1-16

In gentleness, restore fallen Christians to the faith. We will reap what we sow. If we sow corruption, we will reap corruption. If we sow to the Spirit, we will reap eternal life.
